Hanna Lee paints ‘the light in the darkness.’ It was a ray of light that led her out of the dark night. Just as a small candle can turn darkness into a dim darkness, a single ray of light gradually illuminated the surroundings. It revealed the breathing and warmth of beings that had always been by her side, but that she had passed by without paying attention. She could feel the warmth the moment their breath touched her skin. What she expresses is ‘the warmth of the night.’ These are dreamy moments where light and darkness embrace each other, different from the clarity of the midday sun.
The new works present this time particularly capture her journey of finding stability amidst instability. Instability would suddenly engulf her, much like the helplessness and fear one feels in unknown spaces such as the universe or the deep sea. And as always, as she endured the time of darkness, a faint light shone and a sense of stability began to settle in her heart. Just as stars light up the night sky one by one, a sense of stability slowly spreads throughout the body. Her own efforts to endure the time and the warmth of those who stayed by her side held her together. Through these new works, she wishes to convey her gratitude and warm greetings to all the beings who have been with her in the universe she has wandered through.
